Somerset High School Principal

Welcome to the home of the Somerset High School Briar Jumpers.  Established in 1888, we pride ourselves on our traditions of excellence while looking forward to the changing needs of our students and community.  The aim of SHS is to train students to become leaders, whether that be in their families, workplace, community, or otherwise.  We strive to be intentional in all decisions, focusing on solutions rather than yielding to problems.  With that attitude, we are prepared to face the unique challenges that lie before us and provide a top quality education even in the face of a pandemic.

Our staff is a caring group of professionals set on providing for the needs of our students and helping them become the leaders they can be both in and out of the classroom.  We strive for excellence in all that we do from the opportunities we create, to the safe and caring environment in the building, to the fields and courts of competition.

Somerset High School is also home to the Carnegie Academy, a dual credit academy with a focus on a rigorous liberal arts approach to education, blending diverse student interests and teaching them how to become life-long learners.  Students who graduate with the Carnegie Diploma meet the highest academic standards in course work and achievement and serve as a shining example of Briar Jumper excellence.  The Headmaster, Brian Blankenship, can be reached through our website for additional information.

We look forward to serving our students and are resolved to grow as professionals to meet the demands of our changing educational landscape while promoting our storied history.  It's going to be a great year, SHS!  GO JUMPERS!
